Outline:
The success of a company depends on its leader and how they will lead their employees and plan for the future. This Course identifies with current trends and a downward economy; where many small and medium businesses will struggle. There is a growing demand for this type of programme among CEOs within SMEs, particularly for peer group discussion amongst senior managers and directors.
For Whom:
This course will enable learners develop a critical understanding of the importance of management development and leadership to both organisations and national economic success and an in-depth appreciation of the importance of business strategy in aligning management development policy and practice with business values and ethics.
Objectives:
On completion of this module participants will be able to understand The Strategic Planning Process and should be able to:

demonstrate understanding of the term ‘strategic planning’

analyse the benefits of a strategic approach to management

analyse the tasks involved in the strategic planning process

use key management tools to analyse the current situation of an organisation e.g. SWOT & PEST
-
demonstrate ability to draw appropriate conclusions from SWOT & PEST analysis

explain why organisations must be capable of change and renewal
-
evaluate various ways in which organisations plan for change
-
distinguish between each level of planning: strategic, tactical and operational
-
Formulate a Vision, Mission and Goals

participate in the formulation of a vision
-
participate in the development of a mission statement
-
analyse the need for objectives
-
outline short and long-range objectives
-
demonstrate an understanding of the term ‘SMART’ objectives
-
define the term team and differentiate between groups and team
-
analyse the five stages a group may go through i.e.: forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning
-
discuss group cohesion and why groups or teams are formed
-
discuss group leadership and the various types of leaders
-
outline the group or team decision- making process, and identify which processes are better suited to different types of decisions
-
analyse the most frequently used channels of communication in groups and identify some of the barriers to group communications
-
analyse group conflict and identify common sources of conflict and how group conflict might be resolved
-
define synergy and give examples of synergistic teams
Duration: This is a 2-day course.
Accreditation: After completing this programme, participants will receive a FETAC Level 6 Minor Award in Strategic Planning.
FAS Funding: This course is 50% funded by FAS.
Examination: Participants are required to undertake the following assessment :
